While this is not an exhaustive list of my training over the years, it does offer insight into my commitment to embrace change and become the best teacher possible for my students' benefit.  

 

The Business and Marketing Education Conference

Summers 2003 through 2010, and summer of 2013

Attended a variety of workshops and seminars to expand my knowledge and enhance my teaching in the classroom.  

 

Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol I and II

October 2004 and  November 2005

Received in-depth training in the organization, planning, and delivery of lessons to benefit second language learners through my district.  Participated in a "refresher" training course in 2008.

 

Ruby Payne Training

Day 1- 2006 and Day 2 - 2007

Completed training designed to help educators understand students' views through an economic lens and improve student achievement with specific tools and strategies to reach students in poverty.

 

Design and Delivery of Instruction

2006

Received training on the Madeline Hunter method of designing and delivering lesson plans.  I found that I was able to merge SIOP easily into the DDI method of instruction.  

 

Applied Educational Systems

March 2007

Received training and then piloted the ITCenter21 program initially to help ESL students learn the "BCIS" curriculum.  Became a certified trainer (August 2007) when the program was implemented across the district.  I was responsible for training all of our teachers and maintaining the system server.

 

Teacher Mentor Training

November 2007 and January 2008

Completed the Texas Education Agency Teacher Mentor training series through the Spring Branch Independent School District.  Had the privilege of mentoring two teachers as they completed alternative certification training and one first-year teacher on campus.

 

23 Things @ Library2Play

Summer 2008

Completed an online learning program that introduced me to a number of Web 2.0 tools and offered suggestions on how to integrate the technologies into the curriculum and the classroom.

 

R.O.P.E.S. Training

Summer 2009

Completed a week-long leadership training conference, which included low-ropes participation and training.  

 

The Environment and the Economy 

August 2011

Completed a 4-day training through the Foundation for Teaching Economics.  The training taught how to use economic principles to analyze environmental issues and produce win-win scenarios for both business and the environment.  

 

11 Tools for the 21st Century Learner

October 2011

This online training was an extension to the "23 Things" training completed in the summer of 2008.  New Web 2.0 tools were introduced and suggestions given on how to implement them into the curriculum.  

 

Economics for Leaders Conference

July 2012

Completed a week-long training through the Foundation for Teaching Economics.  In this unique program, teachers learned new and innovative tools to teach economics in their curriculum and then had the opportunity to model the activities and simulations with students while at the conference.  

 

Economics Boot Camp

July 2012

Completed a three-day training through the Dallas Federal Reserve.  Received training in a variety of business and economic principles along with materials that could be integrated into the curriculum of the courses I taught.

 

Instructional Leadership Summit

August 2013

Selected by my campus principal to be a member of the Early Adopter team.  The team was charged with the task of researching new teacher tools and testing them in our classrooms.  If they proved effective and were approved our team would train other teachers on how to utilize the tools effectively.  This training prepared me for that role.
